Information streaming at a frantic pace continues to cancel and conflict with the previous findings about anything and everything.

There seems to be no filter or a way to strain facts from opinions. Personal perspective and bias affect attitudes and actions and skew expectations of ourselves and others. If you are feeling unsure, uncertain, unclear, and unsettled you are not alone. How is it possible to steer a straight and steady course through these tumultuous conditions we find our lives in?

There is only one resource I know to turn to that never fails me. Today I am desperate for words of ageless wisdom I can trust and depend on. Will you listen to them with me?

“Do not let your hearts be troubled.”

John 14:1

Sacred words of reassurance spoken by Jesus to his disciples resonate with crystal clarity in my spirit. Are your anxious thoughts, heightened suspicions, and fears trying to capsize your faith with chaos and confusion? If you are searching for clarity and security in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, economic upheaval, racial unrest, religious divisions, and general disruptions of life you are not alone. It comforts me to remember Jesus spoke these words to his friends during another age of unrest and uncertainty.

He is personally familiar with fragile political, economic, social, and religious injustice. The miraculous resurrection of Lazarus found in John chapter 11 created a deep divide in the religious community. After this time the chief priests and Pharisees began to plot in earnest to put Jesus to death. He was a threat to their position and power. His light and authority always threaten those who desire to usurp power and position to oppress others.

Jesus withdrew from the crowds not to protect himself, but to prepare his disciples for the difficult days ahead of them. He knows the future for all of us. The way forward may be hidden and obscure to you and me but it is not veiled to him.

I want to encourage you today.

No doubt we are living in unprecedented days. That may be the one statement everyone can agree on. If you are wondering how God is using this season in your life, I’m praying for you. Please do not grow weary. Continue to pursue him. Remember he is always working (whether you can see it or not) and nothing (no matter how difficult or disruptive) is wasted in his hand. God is depositing eternal truths into your innermost being to prepare you for his purposes to be accomplished in and through you.

We may not recognize or fully understand now. We have limited insight and understanding when we are in the midst of a storm. But the Holy Spirit in us promises to bring his word to our memory and give us clarity. He is our filter for the constant conflicting information flowing and our sieve for truth from lies. The words of Jesus must be the standard for our decisions because they speak with timeless reliability and eternal dependability.

Remember your time invested with the Lord in prayer, Bible reading, and Bible study is filling your spiritual storehouse. Stock up because it seems very clear we are going to continue to need his voice of clarity in the days to come!

With so many voices trying to influence our decisions and an atmosphere rife with chaos and confusion, it is our prayer at Open Eyes that we will continue to strengthen one another in faith and build up the body of Christ around the world. The challenge for all of us is to allow this season to prepare us for the day when we will labor together again to strengthen the kingdom of God until He comes. And remember these words foretold by the prophet Isaiah about the Promised Son…

“ of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.”

Isaiah 9:7
