We have some incredible news to share with you! Open Eyes has officially launched in Sri Lanka, a small country off the tip of India that has faced tremendous hardship in recent years. Only 1.3% of the 21 million people living there are Protestant Christians, but we are partnering with the Ceylonese Evangelistic Association to bring the Good News of Jesus to the most remote villages of Sri Lanka.
During our visit, we had the privilege of spending time with frontline church planters who work tirelessly in the face of fierce opposition and great lack. We launched with 14 Mobile Messengers, who will be catalysts for holistic transformation of lives and communities—our desire is to equip 200 in the next three years.
One of the Mobile Messengers who received a motorcycle was overcome with emotion. He shared a powerful testimony about how he and his family had to walk for three hours in the dark after missing the bus on their way home from a village church that he pastors. His wife had injured her feet and was bleeding profusely, and he prayed that they would never experience that again. He even told the church elders to plan to continue meeting without him. Just one week later, he received a call from our leaders informing him that he was selected to receive a motorcycle!
We are excited about what God has in store for Sri Lanka, and we invite you to join us in praying for their ministry. Let’s stand together and support these courageous church planters as they spread the Gospel to the most remote corners of Sri Lanka.
