Meet the newest member of our team!
When my son, James, and I first founded Open Eyes, I’m not sure we ever fully considered the future impact the Lord would allow this ministry to have around the world. Today, over 12 years from its beginning and 10 years from James going to heaven, with more than 350,000 decisions for Christ, 2,600 church plants and 1,005 Mobile Messengers equipped on two continents, our future is often in our prayers.
It’s with that future in mind, that I am humbled and very excited to introduce the newly appointed President of Open Eyes – Denny Mathews. Denny grew up in Gujarat, India where he learned first-hand to trust the Lord as he watched his parents live out their calling amidst great suffering and persecution. Early in their marriage, Denny’s parents left all they knew and set out, in faith, to follow the leading of their Savior to an unreached area of India. Much like the faithful servants of the New Testament, his family faced hunger, beatings, persecution, betrayal, sickness, and the death of a child – all to preach the gospel, plant churches, and care for the least and the lost. Today, Denny follows in the footsteps of his father and my son, James, in a willing desire to pursue those in greatest need around the world.
In 2016, after more than two successful decades as an executive in the financial services industry, Denny left corporate America to join a non-profit ministry with a reach to over 90 nations around the globe. As Chief Financial Officer and later, Chief Operating Officer, Denny was a big part of the ministry’s unprecedented growth and expanding impact. Denny also serves as teaching Pastor at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte, the Chairman of the Board at Alpha Ministries, Board Treasurer at the Harold C. Smith Foundation, and as a Board Director at Missio Nexus. Denny and his wife, Bella, have been married for 25 years and have four children – Jude, Abigail, Hannah, and Jonah.
