The Open Eyes team is on the ground in Kenya. We had a beautiful day of worship with Pastor Simon and his church in Namanga. Today, we are meeting with Mobile Messengers from South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya—we’re excited to learn from these local leaders about how they are engaging in ministry.

Open Eyes got its start when James Harrison traveled to South Sudan and encountered, firsthand, the needs of God’s people in Africa. He fell in love with his African brothers and sisters and started living full-time in Kenya. James was our first “Mobile Messenger,” and our ministry lives on in his memory.

This is the first time that Denny Mathews (Open Eyes President) is meeting with Simon, Sosthen, and the other national leaders that have been with Open Eyes since its beginning. We spent our first day in Namanga and visited Simon’s church. We also visited the house where James Harrison lived with his adopted African family.

There are many prayer requests—Simon’s wife, Pastor Agnes, told us that there is great need among the women. The wives often work to support the family economically so that their husbands can travel to the church plants and minister as evangelists. The financial needs are vast as it is very difficult to plant a new church and pay for rent and resources, in addition to caring for a family.

Please join us in praying for Simon, Agnes, and Sosthen, who are fearlessly leading the ministry in Africa. Pray that our U.S. team would have safe travels and that deep relationships will be formed with our African leaders as we share a vision for growth and impact.
